Mid-Week Motivational Booster – Don’t be a slave!

Weekly Quote

“Be not the slave of your own past. Plunge into the sublime seas, dive deep and swim far, so you shall come back with self-respect, with new power, with an advanced experience that shall explain and overlook the old.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

The Risk Reward Ratio.

Everything in life in one way or another brings with it some kind of risk. One of the things everyone has the opportunity to learn is that there is a reward/risk ratio in all area of life.

Let me give you two examples.

– You have been thinking about leaving the politics, issues and rewards of corporate America behind and starting your own business. You like the security, income and comfort of getting a check every week regardless of your performance or the organization’s success BUT, you would like to have the freedom, control over your destiny and rewards of being self-employed. So, what do you do? A dilemma. Everything in life requires a trade-off – get something and give something else up. The risk is you might go broke – the reward is you might get rich. Tough choice for many people.

– You have had a relationship with a certain person for a long enough period of time – that you now face the choice of a long-term commitment i.e. marriage or you stay in the relative security of ‘no commitmentland’ (I know it’s not a word I just made it up to make a point, so don’t all you English majors get yourself into a twit.) The decision is to risk the more permanent relationship – what if it fails and you have to deal with pain, lawyers etc. – or stay in the relative ease of a no-commitment relationship. Tough choice for many. The rewards of the permanent relationship can far outweigh the risks and vice versa. You gotta choose. Which risks and rewards are the most important and meaningful for you?

Either way, every day, you gotta choose, and with every choice comes potential risks and rewards. You get them where you are and you will get them in the new choice as well. You can’t hide from risk. You don’t always get to choose the rewards. So what the heck, go for it and follow your heart and your dreams and enjoy the adventure of life. You can either be an explorer or maintain the status quo!!

Question for the week

Are you afraid to take some risk for fear of the unknown?
