{"id":680,"date":"2011-03-14T03:05:54","date_gmt":"2011-03-14T08:05:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/wordsofwisdom\/?p=680"},"modified":"2011-03-14T15:38:22","modified_gmt":"2011-03-14T20:38:22","slug":"managing-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/wordsofwisdom\/managing-change\/","title":{"rendered":"Managing Change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Weekly Management Tips<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>It is annoying to be honest to no purpose<\/em>.\u201d<br \/>\n~ Ovid<\/p>\n<p>There are a number of national and international organizations that are still being run by old school managers and executives.\u00a0 These individuals, many of them, are locked in a style of doing business that may have worked ten or twenty years ago.\u00a0 But times are changing \u2013 hello!\u00a0 Many of these executives and managers are going to find themselves on the outside looking in and wondering how did it happen, when did it happen, why did it happen to me or to us.\u00a0 Let me describe for you what I mean by &#8220;old school&#8221; management style.\u00a0 See if the shoe fits for you.\u00a0 The old school manager or executive is;<\/p>\n<p>-A top down autocrat while giving lip service to bottom up responsibility, decision making, goal setting and problem solving.<\/p>\n<p>-They are arrogant, closed minded, and often aloof and inaccessible.\u00a0 They believe to win means beating someone else.<\/p>\n<p>-They are concerned that other people in their organization don&#8217;t get too much; recognition, compensation, responsibility and\/or freedom.<\/p>\n<p>-They believe that people should sacrifice their families, health and personal agendas for the sake of the organization.<\/p>\n<p>-They are very competitive and would sell their children for a customer.<\/p>\n<p>-They are price and profit driven.<\/p>\n<p>-They use people up.<\/p>\n<p>-They often feel they are invincible.<\/p>\n<p>-They use threats, economic leverage and fear to get results.<\/p>\n<p>Whereas the successful manager\/executive of the future:<\/p>\n<p>-Listens to his\/her employees, customers, suppliers and works at creating partnerships both inside and outside the organization.<\/p>\n<p>-They empower people by pushing decision making, authority, accountability, problem solving, goal setting and risk taking down through the organization.<\/p>\n<p>-They create a strong team approach to projects, programs, objectives and solving problems.<\/p>\n<p>-They encourage cooperation and open honest communication.<\/p>\n<p>-They reward creativity, mistakes that contribute to improvements and honest feedback.<\/p>\n<p>-They see change as an opportunity to grow.<\/p>\n<p>-They see problems as necessary to modify systems, strategies, policies and procedures.<\/p>\n<p>-They are reflective, responsive and accessible.<\/p>\n<p>-They are driven by creating quality of life for their employees, customers and the community.<\/p>\n<p>-They are not selfish with the fruits of their employee\u2019s labors.<\/p>\n<p>-They share openly and fairly.<\/p>\n<p>-They trust and believe in their people.<\/p>\n<p>-They are concerned about values, the environment and relationships.<\/p>\n<p>Quite a contrast, wouldn&#8217;t you say.\u00a0 It should be an easy task to determine where you fit.
