Those divisions &#8211; so &#8216;they&#8217; say &#8211; are one of the many reasons our industry has failed to reach its potential. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><div id=\"manuf-3078443225\" class=\"manuf-content manuf-entity-placement\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3870480136270376\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3870480136270376\" \ndata-ad-slot=\"\" \ndata-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\n<script> \n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); \n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Not quibbling over that, but I happen to l<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><span lang=\"zxx\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhmarketingsalesmanagement.com\/home\/featured-articles\/july-2013\/5781-a-cup-of-coffee-withtim-williams\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">ike what Tim Williams, 21st Mortgage CEO and the new Vice-Chairman at MHI, said when he likened the MH Industry to a fraternity<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">To be \u201cfraternal\u201d &#8211; says Google \u2013 is to be<\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\">\u00a0\u201c<\/span><span style=\"color: #b84700;\">like a brother or brothers<\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\">.\u201d<\/span> The implication is one of <i><b>family. <\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Well, even the best of families as well as frat members can have a good squabble or debate.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Mindful of my parents lessons, including:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&gt; you catch more flies with honey than vinegar, but<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&gt; It is also meant to get us past the ones that have hung around seemingly\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><i><b>FOREVER!<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Some times people draw lines in the sand, and then dare the other party to cross it. In many cases, that&#8217;s a&#8230; <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Bad Move<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Go ahead and disagree if you want, but there are essentially two ways to play the Game of Life. Dr. Stephen Covey says, there is win-win and win-lose. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">For those who want to try to &#8216;win&#8217; in a way that makes the other party &#8216;lose,&#8217; the sad reality is that it can cause both sides to lose. Can&#8217;t our industry do as well?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">As I look at the off-and-on issues between the two national associations, for example, it seems to me that win-lose has cost both. Because it has cost both of them, it has cost us all. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Are you telling me that intelligent folks can&#8217;t sit down and see how they craft a plan that benefits everyone in the mix? <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Is the last 3 decades about enough time to make that happen? <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">I&#8217;m looking at some news that one association sees as the other association trying to kill them with higher costs. Hmmm&#8230;tell me, what can we expect next from the we-feel-threatened-association? <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Are you telling me the leadership can&#8217;t see what has happened for 30 plus years, with a few brief respites like the MHIA of 2000? Didn&#8217;t that MHIA 2000 lesson in working together teach us the value it can bring?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">A similar point can be made about PEP and our industry, as you&#8217;ll see in one of the stories from moi below. Failure to robustly pursue PEP costs us all.
