Some predict a wave that will sweep Republicans into control of the Senate, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/if-the-gop-takes-the-senate-the-cfpb-may-take-a-bath\/\" target=\"_blank\">giving new momentum to challenges to Dodd-Frank<\/a>. Others say some races are so close, the Democrats (or in KS, an \u201cIndependent\u201d) could surprise Republicans and keep Harry Reid&#8217;s gavel firmly in his hands.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><div id=\"manuf-2782248363\" class=\"manuf-content manuf-entity-placement\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3870480136270376\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3870480136270376\" \ndata-ad-slot=\"\" \ndata-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\n<script> \n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); \n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Each side makes it clear that every vote counts in the &#8220;ground game.&#8221; So will the day come that manufactured housing professionals realize<a href=\"http:\/\/manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/tri-star-estates-bourbonais-masthead-blog-mhpronews-.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-9178\" src=\"http:\/\/manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/tri-star-estates-bourbonais-masthead-blog-mhpronews-.png\" alt=\"tri-star-estates-bourbonais-masthead-blog-mhpronews-\" width=\"300\" height=\"162\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/tri-star-estates-bourbonais-masthead-blog-mhpronews-.png 300w, https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/tri-star-estates-bourbonais-masthead-blog-mhpronews--150x81.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> that with proper advanced planning, MH could in become the swing votes election in most districts?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The MH industry could accomplish that goal, if&#8230;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&#8230;if we had the roughly 20 million home owners and residents living in MH &#8220;on our side&#8221; at the polls. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Political Victories = Money and Votes<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">6% of the U.S. population lives in our product. Many electoral races are decided by a far smaller margin. Polls suggest races in GA, KS and NH may have their respective Democratic, Independent and Republican candidates about 2% or less apart. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">That means our residents, customers and MH professionals <i>could be a deciding factor in tight races.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Some understandably angst that MH doesn&#8217;t have enough lobbying dollars to compete with deeper pocket interest groups. Okay, then why aren&#8217;t we collectively more focused on mobilizing MH voters? Either well done or a blended lobbying approach could yield a breakthrough in Washington DC, or at the state level.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Financial Gain from Having Residents on our side<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I&#8217;ve heard the arguments made by some &#8211; for example, from the MH communities sector &#8211; that they don&#8217;t want to organize residents. If we don&#8217;t organize them, <\/span><i>then groups like the National Manufactured Home Owners Association (NMHOA) has proven they will<\/i><span style=\"color: #000000;\">. Ishbel Dicken&#8217;s lead NMHOA &#8211; via their state affiliates &#8211; have time after time, and will continue. Is that what MH Pros want?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Or think about those attorneys who&#8217;d love to organize the residents of XYZ MHC for the next class action law suit to hit an MHC owner?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Nature abhors a vacuum &#8211; either we organize home owners and residents to fight for what is arguably in their own best interests \u2013 for example, on needed Dodd-Frank reforms &#8211; or others have and will fill that void. Ignoring the political clout of residents or ceding it to others is not a successful strategy. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Come to think of it&#8230;<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">On the <\/span><i><b>Masthead<\/b><\/i><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> we believe our MH Industry is the future of quality, appealing, affordable housing in America and beyond! But that doesn&#8217;t mean that <\/span><i>some of those that you know in our industry won&#8217;t suffer catastrophic reversals<\/i><span style=\"color: #000000;\">:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">in the market place, <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">from regulators and public officials<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">from the courts and legal system<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>A Better Way to Express This<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Come to think of it, the better phrasing is we <\/span><i>MHPros want to be on our home owners and residents side<\/i><span style=\"color: #000000;\">. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">We can readily make the case that Dicken&#8217;s and those like her who:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&gt; want the CFPB to remain as is, <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&gt; or who argue for rent control, etc. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">are well meaning, but <i>mistaken. <\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Listening to the concerns of MH home owners\/residents and giving them our professional insights must be <i>shared ways in ways that resonates for them<\/i>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Rent control and the Dodd-Frank status quo both arguably harming MH residents and home owners. Why don&#8217;t industry pros make a video that tells the tale? For now, consider case made in this video by Nicole Gelinas of the Manhattan Institute, and her reasons why rent control harms housing affordability and quality.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"LEFT\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oJvTTGOHFkU?rel=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Combine the above insight, with this TV news report out of Manitoba and the demonstrated impact of rent control in that market on manufactured housing. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"LEFT\"><object width=\"480\" height=\"322\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/video\/swf\/UberPlayer.swf?state=sharevideo&#038;clipId=2402496167&#038;width=480&#038;height=322\" \/><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/video\/swf\/UberPlayer.swf?state=sharevideo&#038;clipId=2402496167&#038;width=480&#038;height=322\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"480\"height=\"322\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">In an interview with <\/span><\/span><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhmarketingsalesmanagement.com\/home\/featured-articles\/september-2014\/8241-a-cup-of-coffee-with-sheila-dey\" target=\"_blank\">Sheila Dey<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">, the industry veteran made the point of how powerful an impact such resident groups can have on elected officials. Of course, she is correct.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">But let&#8217;s think about that very point in reverse. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Doesn&#8217;t it make sense to make to help residents see why rent control harms them, harms housing affordability and thus should be resisted? Can&#8217;t we make the case on HR 1779\/S 1828 to them as well?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Thinking Win-Win<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Win-lose often becomes lose-lose when facts are viewed objectively. When Big Business took advantage of labor at various times\/places, unions organized. As some labor unions later became equally abusive, the enterprise (or city&#8230;) may have failed, going into bankruptcy. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Without mutual victories \u2013 solidarity &#8211; there are often only mutual losses. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Take a Bite&#8230;<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">How many of the millions who buy an Apple iPhone complain excessively that they bought the previous &#8216;new model&#8217; a mere 18-24 month&#8217;s ago? <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Yet MH has a more compelling story than Apple, so long as we craft and tell it well.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Manufactured housing holds a key to quality affordable homes for millions of Americans. Given the proper win-win perspective, MH businesses, home owners and residents all benefit. That firm foundation could lead businesses, associations and home owners to join hands on issues of common interest. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Such unity could swing elections. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Very little effort is being made to explain \u2013 much less engage \u2013 manufactured home owners on why legislation like HR 1779\/S 1828 is important to them.
