So MHI &#8211; which put two pro-Clinton speakers on their Chicago stage days before the 2016 election &#8211; has no room to crow. Rather, they should be grateful to those in the industry who promoted a president who would sign such a measure. <\/i><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There is a 100 percent chance of celebration and back slapping by the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI).\u00a0 I don\u2019t blame them, it&#8217;s natural.<\/p>\n<p>But there\u2019s a back story.\u00a0 MHI don&#8217;t want the focus to be on the back story.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, as a matter of record, repeal of the onerous MLO rule is one <em>MHProNews<\/em> has supported for years.<\/p>\n<p>In spite of what some consumer groups claim, the MLO repeal provision only levels the playing field for manufactured home retailers and communities. It allows them to do what real estate agents can already do. We supported both legs of the original bill, so logically, we supported each one too.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14757\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14757\" style=\"width: 458px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14757 \" src=\"https:\/\/manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/S2155ManufactuerdHousingINdustryMastheadAnalysisMHProNews-520x430.jpg\" alt=\"S2155ManufactuerdHousingINdustryMastheadAnalysisMHProNews\" width=\"458\" height=\"379\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14757\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><i> Whatever happens on this bill, there is going to be overhang from progressives, unless the case &#8211; especially for manufactured housing &#8211; is properly made as to why this bill was positive for consumers and industry alike. <\/i><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cTony, What\u2019s the Beef?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve had some pros \u2013 skimmers, not readers \u2013 who\u2019ve asked why we don\u2019t support the bill. We have supported the measure, and did for years.<\/p>\n<p>Our \u201c<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>beef<\/strong><\/span>\u201d \u2013 as one writer put it &#8211; <em>has been that MHI spiked this MLO-only deal years ago.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If the MLO rule is OK now, why wasn\u2019t it OK then?<\/p>\n<p>Mark my words.\u00a0 MHI wanted to do this, because they and their puppet masters were desperate to be able to claim a victory on anything of substance.<\/p>\n<p>Mark my words. MHI and their puppet masters are feeling the heat.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14759\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14759\" style=\"width: 394px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhpronews.com\/blogs\/daily-business-news\/mhi-lender-shakes-up-dts-and-mlo-rule-discussions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-14759\" src=\"https:\/\/manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/MHILenderShakesUpDTSMLORuleDiscussionManufacturedHousingIndustryFinancingDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews.jpg\" alt=\"MHILenderShakesUpDTSMLORuleDiscussionManufacturedHousingIndustryFinancingDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews\" width=\"394\" height=\"251\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14759\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhpronews.com\/blogs\/daily-business-news\/mhi-lender-shakes-up-dts-and-mlo-rule-discussions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/www.mhpronews.com\/blogs\/daily-business-news\/mhi-lender-shakes-up-dts-and-mlo-rule-discussions\/<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MSM = Mainstream Media<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once more, the mainstream media (MSM) has numerous reports and commentaries coming out just before the House vote.\u00a0 They are slamming the measure, slamming Clayton Homes, and Berkshire Hathaway\u2019s MHI association mouthpiece.<\/p>\n<p>Part of the point is that even when they \u2018succeed:\u2019<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the manufactured housing industry must remember this could have been done years ago, as the <em>Daily Business News<\/em> exclusively reported.<\/li>\n<li>Clayton and their Berkshire lending brands were winning either way. They benefited if S 2155 and\/or Preserving Access passed or not. This is a nuanced but critical point to understand, long after 2155 is forgotten. An MHI insider first told me about that insight, and then another did. It was MHI types that explained that the big companies benefit regardless if MHI backed bills pass, or not. \u00a0Burn that one into your mind, it frankly took me time to get it. But once that sank in, it became an eye-popping insight.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Look at this MHI Pattern<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14529\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14529\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14529 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/LesliGoochforCongressManufacturedHousingInstituteMHISVPGovtAffairsRelationsManufacturedHousingIndustryCommentaryMastheadDailyBuisnessNewsMHProNews.jpg\" alt=\"LesliGoochforCongressManufacturedHousingInstituteMHISVPGovtAffairsRelationsManufacturedHousingIndustryCommentaryMastheadDailyBuisnessNewsMHProNews\" width=\"560\" height=\"223\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14529\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><i>Lesli Gooch, blast from her past&#8230; <\/i><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MHI\u2019s EVP Lesli Gooch proudly told the <em>Washington Post<\/em> they did not weigh in on the removal of Pam Danner.<\/p>\n<p>Recall, that MHI was on the wrong side of the DOE energy rule, until pressure from this publication, MHARR, the SBA and others made them switch course.<\/p>\n<p>We could go on and on like the above. Hardly, that\u2019s reversed.\u00a0 MHI gave us the boot because they didn\u2019t know how to deal with all the myriad of revelations we were publishing about their \u2018alleged\u2019 favoritism, failures, and flaws.<\/p>\n<p>All of that has cost the industry, IMHO, billions of dollars a year in new home sales.\u00a0 That in turn has cost manufactured home owners, billions of dollars in higher resale values.<\/p>\n<p>It is time for more in the industry to dig deeply.<\/p>\n<p>It is time to pull the head out of the sand, and look.<\/p>\n<p>As a closing thought, please note that not everything about MHI, not everything about Berkshire Hathaway draws our concerns. We strive to be objective.<\/p>\n<p>The best example is from Monday.\u00a0 Please check that article out.\u00a0 We give credit where it is due, period. We are evidence, reason, and fact-based.
