Fans think nothing of traveling hundreds or thousands of miles to <em>Be There<\/em> and share the excitement and triumphs of their\u00a0teams playing for the NCAA crystal trophy. Those who haven&#8217;t the time or means can watch wall-to-wall basketball from noon to midnight from their own TVs or phone apps. If thousands of fans can do this to support and enjoy their team, can we not do the same for our manufactured <em>homes?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hmmm, basketball fans\u2026 manufactured housing fans\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<br \/>\nTo Associate, or Not to Associate, that is the Question\u2026 Or is it?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Doesn&#8217;t that divide the manufactured housing world of <strong><a href=\"\/associations-directory\">associations<\/a><\/strong> into the simplistic &#8216;black and white&#8217; world of yesteryear, when the 21st-century world has gone from shades of gray to limitless hues of multi-spectrum color?<\/p>\n<p>Maybe the real question is how to associate? Or why join an association? These MHMSM.com pages, especially <strong><a href=\"\/blogs\/tonykovach\/association-disagreements-apathy-kyp-randy-rowes-5-point-plan-for-manufactured-housing-recovery\/\">The Masthead Blog<\/a><\/strong> and Industry Voices Blog, are customarily filled with answers to why and reasons for encouraging association membership. \u00a0In this issue, we are doing something a bit different, presenting multiple perspectives on associations for your consideration. \u00a0Are associations headstrong or member driven? Why join\u2026 or why not to? We have drawn two feature articles from the respective material of <a href=\"\/featured-articles\/march-2011\/1477-what-mhassociations-lack\"><strong>George F. Allen<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"\/featured-articles\/march-2011\/1460-the-importance-of-a-written-loan-policy\"><strong>Ken Rishel<\/strong><\/a>, who bring out both the pluses and minuses of association membership. \u00a0In addition, <a href=\"\/featured-articles\/march-2011\/1476-to-be-or-not-to-be-die-survive-or-thrive-a-manufactured-housing\"><strong>Michael Barnabas<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"\/featured-articles\/march-2011\/1475-associations-and-the-value-proposition\"><strong>Amy Bliss<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"\/featured-articles\/march-2011\/1455-participation-in-state-and-national-organizations-manufactured-housing-associations-by-the-number\"><strong>Don Westphal<\/strong><\/a> and new voices <a href=\"\/featured-articles\/march-2011\/1474-association-membership-a-members-perspective\"><strong>Paul Bradley<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"\/featured-articles\/march-2011\/1468-why-belong-to-an-association\"><strong>Deanna Fields<\/strong><\/a> speak for association membership and address some of the concerns that Allen and Rishel have raised.<\/p>\n<p>So it comes back to the fundamental question, <em>how<\/em> to associate. But the underlying principle that unifies all these perspectives is: YOU \u2013 we \u2013 (the members) are the ones to make the difference. \u00a0This isn&#8217;t about being for or against. It is about being FOR the good of the Industry. In these particularly difficult times, how can we afford <em>not<\/em> to be members of one or more associations? We&#8217;re association members.
