Or they trust a source, without realizing that the source has changed.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on the source or context, they could be mistaken, because \u201c<strong>facts<\/strong>\u201d have been so politicized.<\/p>\n<p>We will use the Manufactured Housing Institute to make our point.<\/p>\n<p>In MHI\u2019s 1.25.2018 \u201c<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Housing Alert<\/strong><\/span>,\u201d one finds the following phrase, quoting:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">As the only trade association officially registered to lobby on behalf of the manufactured housing industry in Washington, MHI will continue to work with the Administration&#8217;s key housing leaders and Congress<\/span><\/strong>\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For those in the know, the first part of that sentence are code-words aimed against the Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform (MHARR). MHI&#8217;s claim that they are the only registered lobbying group in Washington is simply not accurate. <\/i><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Huh? MHI is making a bold claim. They\u2019ve made that same allegation repeatedly. It\u2019s about a piece of information that the industry\u2019s members ought to care about. George Allen claims there are even more than that. Why did MHI publish the lowest number? Is it because MHVillage is a favored company? <\/i><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MHI has three members who are all publishing on this topic. The statistics being used by MHI are those of their member MHVillage\/DataComp; let\u2019s call them the <em>MHI favored insiders<\/em> on this topic.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/frank-rolfe-dave-reynolds-george-allen-manufactured-home-community-controversy-continues\/<\/p>\n<p>MHI member Frank Rolfe is not without influence, and George Allen is another member who likewise has a following.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Why is MHVillage data being used by MHI, when it is the lowest of the three competing sources?<\/li>\n<li>Why MHVillage&#8217;s data, when Rolfe asserts in writing that they did a hand count that took them 2 years to complete, that shows 44k communities &#8211; thousands more communities than MHVillage does?<\/li>\n<li>Doesn\u2019t the lower MHC count harm the MH industry\u2019s relative importance?<\/li>\n<li>Is it a case of <em>MHI politicized facts<\/em>, based upon<em> favoritism<\/em> and <em>agendas<\/em>?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As a source at RV Horizon\u2019s \u2013 one of Frank Rolfe\u2019s operations &#8211; told <em>MHProNews,<\/em> lenders and investors want hard accurate data. Don&#8217;t jump to conclusions.<\/strong> <\/i><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MHI also arguably have a pattern of telling most of their members and the industry-at-large one thing &#8211; via their emailed \u2018updates\u2019 and \u2018alerts\u2019 &#8211; but failing to mention key points, that are often highly important.<\/p>\n<p>We know from various sources that MHI, Knoxville and others in their group closely follow what we publish.\u00a0 We\u2019ve seen emails that have been forwarded by MHI surrogates and allies.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve contacted MHI and their executive committee directly numerous times.<\/p>\n<p>They can&#8217;t legitimately claim not to know the above and what&#8217;s below.<\/p>\n<p>They know.<\/p>\n<p><em>Yet they fail to make changes<\/em>, even after confronted with the facts.<\/p>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>Could it be that the longer the <em>foot is on the MH industry&#8217;s break pedal<\/em>, that more of the <em>MH industry gets consolidated<\/em>, at bargain basement prices?<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/warren-buffett-the-moat-manufactured-housing-berkshire-hathaway-clayton-homes-21st-mortgage-vanderbilt-wells-fargo-nai\/<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why does this Matter to the MH Industry, Investors, or Public Officials?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Because MHI often buries their oversights, one would have to know what to look for \u2013 in some cases \u2013 to see the problem.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Daily Business News<\/em> will have a new report planned for today that relates to a follow up on the HUD\u2019s announced top-down review.\u00a0 In our inital <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhpronews.com\/blogs\/daily-business-news\/hud-announces-wholesale-review-of-manufactured-housing-rules-national-association-reacts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report yesterday we cited <strong>Lesli Gooch&#8217;s<\/strong> otherwise <strong>fine letter to HUD<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 But we also underscored her key oversight.\u00a0 Gooch didn&#8217;t call for Danner&#8217;s removal.\u00a0 Why not?\u00a0 Arguably, with the wrong person at the helm, <em>every other change you could propose would be moot.<\/em> Others &#8211; including MHI&#8217;s most award-winning retailer &#8211; that we cited in the report linked below came to that same conclusion.\u00a0 Danner had to go.\u00a0 Why didn&#8217;t MHI get that reality years ago?<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14439\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14439\" style=\"width: 525px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhpronews.com\/blogs\/daily-business-news\/hud-announces-wholesale-review-of-manufactured-housing-rules-national-association-reacts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14439\" src=\"http:\/\/manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DougGormanICantImproveOnWhatMarkWeissMHARRPresidentCEOHasSaidBelowManufacturedHousingIndustryVoices-MHProNews.png\" alt=\"DougGormanICantImproveOnWhatMarkWeissMHARRPresidentCEOHasSaidBelowManufacturedHousingIndustryVoices-MHProNews\" width=\"525\" height=\"223\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DougGormanICantImproveOnWhatMarkWeissMHARRPresidentCEOHasSaidBelowManufacturedHousingIndustryVoices-MHProNews.png 525w, https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DougGormanICantImproveOnWhatMarkWeissMHARRPresidentCEOHasSaidBelowManufacturedHousingIndustryVoices-MHProNews-150x64.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14439\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhpronews.com\/blogs\/daily-business-news\/hud-announces-wholesale-review-of-manufactured-housing-rules-national-association-reacts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/www.mhpronews.com\/blogs\/daily-business-news\/hud-announces-wholesale-review-of-manufactured-housing-rules-national-association-reacts\/<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>They knew.<\/p>\n<p>MHI seems to have a pattern of posturing something, but omitting one or more key facts or points.\u00a0 Currently, with respect to Pam Danner and HUD, they are failing to mention that for months, <em>MHI would not take a public position on her role at HUD<\/em>.\u00a0 Why not?<\/p>\n<p>We believe the answer is that heavy regulations harms independent producers, retailers and communities \u2013 among others. That in turn is useful to larger MHI member companies. Ditto some member companies. There are reasons why others would if they could, but MHI carrots and sticks exist. It&#8217;s bogus, because others in the industry also <em>publish and have consulting<\/em>, just as we do. A. &#039;Tony&#039; Kovach\" src=\"https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/andy-gallagher-ousting-pam-danner-mhi-claytons-rvp-wvhi-transparency\/embed\/#?secret=yOPRHcBbtI#?secret=OV5m4TX63L\" data-secret=\"OV5m4TX63L\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll say it again.\u00a0 The MHI system is apparently rigged and corrupt, as we said in our last<em> Masthead<\/em> post, linked above.<\/p>\n<p>It may or may not be exactly what Marty Lavin or Frank Rolfe had in mind, but both have made points about MHI\u2019s hypocrisy, and failures.<\/p>\n<p>We are not alone, there are MHI board members among those who whisper and complain to us.<\/p>\n<p>MHI members are among those who thank us for having the courage to stand up to the Berkshire Hathaway dominated MHI.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Other Side of the Coin<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>That said, there are those who don&#8217;t like this kind of column or reporting.<\/p>\n<p>A reader recently wrote saying we are trying to make Clayton Homes look bad.\u00a0 I can\u2019t think of a single comment we\u2019ve made against their products. We don&#8217;t slam Clayton&#8217;s homes, or the thousands of good people who work for them.<\/p>\n<p>A large portion of our readers work for a Berkshire Hathaway (BH) owned MH company. We have\/do work with numerous client companies who use Clayton products, or lending from 21<sup>st,<\/sup>etc.<\/p>\n<p>We stick with the facts &#8211; and once they are understood &#8211; where those facts take us.\u00a0 That&#8217;s what media is supposed to do.\u00a0 MHI, Clayton, or whomever is welcome to submit a rebuttal. We&#8217;ve invited it. Trump routinely gets a raw deal from many in the mainstream media.\u00a0 There are millions today who are de facto propagandized.\u00a0 If the media had treated POTUS Obama as they are POTUS Trump, their would have been howls of racism, or some other slurs.<\/p>\n<p>In one year of President Trump&#8217;s leadership, the economy has demonstrably improved, using policies that have been proven good by President John F. Why?\u00a0 Because frankly,<em> it was hard for me to accept it too<\/em>.\u00a0 From early on, there were voices in and with MHI warning me about Jennison, BH, and later others.\u00a0 I heard them, but wasn&#8217;t immediately convinced.<\/p>\n<p>I want to apologize for the time it took us to realize <em>just how corrupted MHI has become<\/em> during the Jennison era. This isn\u2019t personal, its professional.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Simple Summary<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This can be simple. Is Jennison &#8211; and are MHI\u2019s so-called leadership &#8211; good or bad for the industry?
