Fleetwood. Champion. The prior versions all went into bankruptcy, and later were reborn under a different structure.<\/p>\n<p>But they are far from alone.<\/p>\n<p>Literally thousands of manufactured home operations, including, but not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Retailers (dealers),<\/li>\n<li>Land lease Communities (a.k.a manufactured home communities, \u201cparks\u201d)<\/li>\n<li>Producers (builders of federally regulated HUD Code manufactured homes, some build modular, park model, or other products too),<\/li>\n<li>Lenders\/Financial Services, and<\/li>\n<li>a variety of other products, service, and component providers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>have either gone out of business, or sold out to a larger\/deeper pockets operation.<\/p>\n<p>What happened?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Business Cycle, or&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Businesses start and fail every year. That happens for a range of reasons.<\/p>\n<p>The question in manufactured housing ought to be this. On this <em>Masthead,<\/em> publisher\u2019s blog, you find all three.<\/p>\n<p>Claims, controversies, and allegations ought to be tested by reason and known facts.<\/p>\n<p>We don\u2019t publish capriciously, knowing that an error could be embarrassing. Still, readers should question, us and those we publish about.<\/p>\n<p>Ask questions. Seek the truth. The day is coming, we believe, when that takes place.<\/p>\n<p>There will no doubt be lists.<\/p>\n<p>Who did what?\u00a0 Who supported, or opposed, what? Why?<\/p>\n<p>Where laws broken?<\/p>\n<p>Were steps taken that create legal exposure or liability:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>for the national association (MHI),<\/li>\n<li>its members,<\/li>\n<li>or those who control it?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What Happened to Manufactured Housing?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While there are a range of factors, we believe in what\u2019s obvious. What facts and common-sense reveal. There\u2019s no need for a complex conspiracy theory.<\/p>\n<p>Warren Buffett\u2019s Berkshire Hathaway took over Clayton Homes, Oakwood Homes, related lending, retail, and later other production, service, supplier businesses too.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Buffett\u2019s a self-proclaimed, long-term thinker, and he likes \u201cmoats.\u201d\u00a0 Just consider what Buffett said, in his own words, and line that up with what\u2019s happened in manufactured housing.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/warren-buffett-the-moat-manufactured-housing-berkshire-hathaway-clayton-homes-21st-mortgage-vanderbilt-wells-fargo-nai\/<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/perverse-warren-buffett-dodd-frank-cfpb-manufactured-housing-loans-independent-businesses-fact-check\/<\/p>\n<p>The executive committee and dues structures of the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) make it clear that Berkshire Hathaway owned units exercise great influence at MHI. That control is widely known, in and out of our industry.\u00a0 It\u2019s just that few in manufactured housing (MH) dare say plainly and publicly that MHI is Berkshire Hathaway&#8217;s mouthpiece.<\/p>\n<p>MHI, on issue after issue, has led the industry into dead ends, or avoidable, and even problematic places.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who says?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Their former chairman, Nathan Smith, in a video that\u2019s been hiding in plain sight. Those statements, published on or off our sites, speak for themselves.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Latest<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>MHProNews<\/em> has learned from an informed source that MHI has executed non-disclosure agreements (NDA), allegedly with several MHI staffers.<\/p>\n<p>What is MHI hiding?<\/p>\n<p>Who are they hiding that information from?<\/p>\n<p>MHI members?<\/p>\n<p>MH Industry at large?<\/p>\n<p>Public officials?<\/p>\n<p>Are they trying to hide something that is scandal related, and\/or something else?<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/sexual-harassment-not-just-hollywood-media-politicos-manufactured-housing-workplace-claims-high-profile-mh-cases-too\/<\/p>\n<p>Keep in mind, that MHI refused to release to this publication even items that sources tell us they are legally obligated to do so.\u00a0 Items like their current and previous bylaws.<\/p>\n<p>Why hide that, someone might ask?<\/p>\n<p>With their bylaws in hand, one might be able to understand revealing issues.\u00a0 For example, have their been prohibited conflicts of interest &#8211; that may have harmed other MHI members, and\/or the industry at large?<\/p>\n<p>Millions have been spent and years wasted pursuing the <em>Preserving Access to Manufactured Housing Act<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In hindsight, isn\u2019t it obvious that it would never pass while Barack Obama was president? Didn\u2019t MHI\u2019s own VP said as much, years in advance? Again, see the link to MHI GR VP, Jason Boehlert, above.<\/p>\n<p>We have documents from 21st Mortgage, signed by Tim Williams.\u00a0 Mr. Williams was MHI&#8217;s chairman for one has claimed these 21st documents aren\u2019t authentic.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, we have dozens within Berkshire Hathaway owned units &#8211; including their top people &#8211; who we are reliably told have carefully reviewed those report, and the others in our periodic series of reports on MHI and Berkshire Hathaway.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve given<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>MHI,<\/li>\n<li>their executive committee,<\/li>\n<li>and top people at Berkshire Hathaway owned brands the<\/li>\n<li>chance to rebut, clarify, or refute our reports and analysis.\u00a0 We\u2019ve invited them to share statements So, we don\u2019t write or do videos out of thin air. We\u2019re followed by businesses and professionals across the size and political spectrums, in part because we\u2019ve got the \u201c<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>street cred<\/strong><\/span>,\u201d as one executive put it.<\/p>\n<p>MHI has significant influence over state associations.<\/p>\n<p>So, MHI \u201c<strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">housing alerts<\/span><\/strong>\u201d or \u201c<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>MHI News<\/strong><\/span>\u201d they send to their own members are also arguably \u201c<strong>weaponized<\/strong>\u201d to reflect whatever the insider groups want, and reach well beyond their own connected source told us last year the following bombshell. <em>The big companies have figured out how to get what they want, by using MHI &#8211; and the smaller companies are helping pay for what the big firms desire.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve observed that previously, \u2018Feeding the hand that bites yours,\u2019 but to hear it as an admission from an insider, <em>that\u2019s telling.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There are two prime sources of in manufactured housing that have proven willing to push back publicly on MHI and their methods.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>MHARR, and<\/li>\n<li>LifeStyle are independent of one another.\u00a0 That\u2019s healthy and good.\u00a0 We\u2019ve at times taken editorial positions that were contrary to MHARR\u2019s view.<\/p>\n<p>Frankly, at times, we later
