the Dog<\/em> was but one semi-comical example of how American politicians can attempt to divert attention by <em>staging an event.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The movie <em>Power<\/em> is another such movie tale of how <em>staging events<\/em> can create a false illusion for people to rally around, or believe in.<\/p>\n<p>Like the magician who hopes that <em><strong>\u2018<span style=\"color: #993300;\">the hand is quicker than the eye<\/span>,<\/strong>\u2019 <\/em>those who want to stage or divert attention in news, or those who create:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>clever-yet-false narratives,<\/li>\n<li>repeated half-truths or lies,<\/li>\n<li>spin, and<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>all sorts of ruses in an attempt to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>divide,<\/li>\n<li>manipulate, and<\/li>\n<li>control others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Why do some people\/groups use spin, or deception?\u00a0 The two most common answers?<\/p>\n<p>Money and power.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes, it&#8217;s just plain ignorance.<\/p>\n<p>Some may also sincerely believe just some of them. <\/i><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Maturing Understanding of Trade Journalism<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When an auto recall or other news hits the automotive industry, <em>good trade media cover that, <\/em>just as they would some good news about their industry.<\/p>\n<p>When<em> Wired<\/em> &#8211; a tech media site &#8211; recently did a pretty serious critique of the corrosive elements of social media, we had the <em>Daily Business News<\/em> cover that recently for two main reasons.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One, social media impacts our industry every minute of every day; it\u2019s a relevant topic for manufactured housing.<\/li>\n<li>But two &#8211; and perhaps more subtle &#8211; it was a clear cut example of <em>a tech writer was holding his own profession accountable<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-13437\" our products and services exist for reasons both external to the industy, but as internal causes as well. Similarly, challenges that face the industry find causes within and without. <\/i><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Jumping to False Conclusions, &#8220;Obscene Profits,&#8221; and Misunderstanding Others<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Starting with myself, we&#8217;ve all done it.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve all jumped to a false conclusion before.\u00a0 Let me share a personal example.<\/p>\n<p>For some years, I largely tuned out Rush Limbaugh, based upon a misunderstanding on my part.<\/p>\n<p>I misunderstood statements on his radio show that were meant by him as humor (sometimes, to make a point), but if taken seriously, it may have meant the opposite of what he intended.<\/p>\n<p>That was <em>my bad<\/em>, not his.\u00a0 As Dr. Stephen Covey said,<em> first seek to understand, then to be understood.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-14119\" src=\"http:\/\/manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/DontAssumeDontMakeAnAssUMeMastheadMHProNews660-575x88.png\" alt=\"DontAssumeDontMakeAnAssUMeMastheadMHProNews660\" width=\"575\" height=\"88\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/DontAssumeDontMakeAnAssUMeMastheadMHProNews660-575x88.png 575w, https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/DontAssumeDontMakeAnAssUMeMastheadMHProNews660-150x23.png 150w, https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/DontAssumeDontMakeAnAssUMeMastheadMHProNews660-768x118.png 768w, https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/DontAssumeDontMakeAnAssUMeMastheadMHProNews660.png 860w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 575px) 100vw, 575px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>What follows wasn\u2019t what caused my misunderstanding Limbaugh, but it was the humor in his comment that hit me one day, which made me realize he was using similar humor in other parts of his program too.<\/p>\n<p>Rush would announce he was about to take an \u201c<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Obscene profits break<\/strong><\/span>.\u201d\u00a0 Limbaugh wasn\u2019t against profits.\u00a0 Rather, Rush was using humor and satire, while letting listeners know that it was time for the commercial messages that paid for his programming.<\/p>\n<p>My point in part is that we\u2019ve all been guilty of misunderstandings, or misjudging another person, group, activity, whatever.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jesus, Abraham, Moses &#8211; Historic Examples<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I asked an industry friend of mine recently to imagine the following.\u00a0 What if he found himself back in time almost 2,000 years ago, at the time of Jesus overturning the tables of the money changers in the Temple.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14134\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14134\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14134\" src=\"http:\/\/manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/KillingJesusNationalGeographicBillOreiltyMastheadManufacturedHousingIndustryCommentaryMHProNews.png\" alt=\"KillingJesusNationalGeographicBillOreiltyMastheadManufacturedHousingIndustryCommentaryMHProNews\" width=\"550\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/KillingJesusNationalGeographicBillOreiltyMastheadManufacturedHousingIndustryCommentaryMHProNews.png 550w, https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/KillingJesusNationalGeographicBillOreiltyMastheadManufacturedHousingIndustryCommentaryMHProNews-150x116.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14134\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><i> If a first century Jew or Gentile came upon Jesus for the first time during this scene, what would they have thought?
