Hmmm, okay. So, <strong>Why<\/strong> does MHI accept being at only some 9 percent of single family housing starts today?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why<\/strong> did Richard A \u201cDick\u201d Jennison &#8211; President and CEO of the MHI &#8211; say in reply to a softball question in the video below that &#8220;<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>I don&#8217;t<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>think that we <\/strong><\/span>[manufactured housing industry]<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong> should grow too fast<\/strong><\/span>,&#8217; so that it <strong>\u201c<span style=\"color: #993300;\">gets&#8230;out of control<\/span><\/strong>\u201d \u2013 out of who\u2019s control? MHProNews asked MHI&#8217;s leadership about this, asking them to reject racism. After several days, they have not yet done so. Now, MHI&#8217;s SVP Lesli Gooch admits that Rep. Ellison is opposing the MHI Preserving Access bill. In June<\/span><\/strong>,<\/a> <span style=\"color: #993300;\">MHI members went to the Hill to: (1) support H.R. 1699, the Preserving Access to Manufactured Housing Act and (2<\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\">)<\/span> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhpronews.com\/blogs\/daily-business-news\/sparks-fly-as-mhis-lesli-gooch-weighs-in-mharrs-mark-weiss-says-fake-news\/\">Stop HUD\u2019s expansion of the regulation of manufactured housing beyond, and often contradictory to, the statute<\/a> <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u2013 on issues like garages, carports, frost free foundation requirements, and on-site completion of construction. Attached is our \u201casks\u201d document from the fly-in.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">As soon as next week, we expect both of these issues to come up on the House floor when the Fiscal Year 2018 appropriations package\u00a0<strong>(<\/strong>H.R. 3354<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 The Make America Secure and Prosperous Appropriations Act)\u00a0is considered. We will know more about timing\u00a0next Tuesday\u00a0\u2013 while it was scheduled to come up next week we anticipate the Hurricane will likely push the timing back.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">First, the language of the Preserving Access to Manufactured Housing Act is included in the underlying appropriations text that is being brought to the House floor.<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhpronews.com\/blogs\/daily-business-news\/owner-alert-dnc-vice-chair-rep-keith-ellison-introduces-national-manufactured-home-community-bill\/\">Rep. Ellison (D-MN)<\/a><\/strong> has filed an amendment with the Rules Committee to strike this language from the bill. We are advocating with the Rules Committee to decline his request to offer the amendment during House debate on the bill \u2013 as they did when he tried to strike our language out of Chairman Hensarling\u2019s Financial CHOICE Act (H.R. 10).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Second, Rep. Barr has filed an amendment with the Rules Committee regarding HUD\u2019s expansion of regulations on garages\/carports; frost-free foundations; and on-site completion of construction. Per MHI, the industry grew 15% 2016 over 2015. What that means is that Clayton and Cavco are growing at a somewhat slower pace in sales than the industry at large.
