Williams.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There are many private agendas at play, and we won\u2019t outline them all today.\u00a0 Suffice it to say that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhpronews.com\/blogs\/daily-business-news\/fhfa-makes-major-move-significant-impact-expected-on-mh-loans\/\" target=\"_blank\">RC Williams\u2019 article on this issue suggests some of the undercurrents that are at work beneath the surface<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>No Silver Bullet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12864\" src=\"http:\/\/manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/NoSilverBullettPorticalMastheadBlogManufacturedHousingIndustryCommentaryMHProNews.jpg\" alt=\"NoSilverBullettPorticalMastheadBlogManufacturedHousingIndustryCommentaryMHProNews\" width=\"365\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/NoSilverBullettPorticalMastheadBlogManufacturedHousingIndustryCommentaryMHProNews.jpg 365w, https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/NoSilverBullettPorticalMastheadBlogManufacturedHousingIndustryCommentaryMHProNews-150x69.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 365px) 100vw, 365px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Some are still looking \u2013 hoping, and praying \u2013 for a return to the stupid loans made back in the mid-to-late 1990s and into the early 2000s.<\/p>\n<p>Sorry, but the <em>Masthead<\/em> believes that the stupid lending of 15 plus years ago should never be restarted.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_12584\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12584\" style=\"width: 575px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12584 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/ManufacturedHousingAnnualShipmentsToothAcheCredits-ManufacturedHousingIndustryMastheadCommentary-MHProNews--575x372.png\" alt=\"manufacturedhousingannualshipmentstoothachecredits-manufacturedhousingindustrymastheadcommentary-mhpronews\" width=\"575\" height=\"372\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/ManufacturedHousingAnnualShipmentsToothAcheCredits-ManufacturedHousingIndustryMastheadCommentary-MHProNews--575x372.png 575w, https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/ManufacturedHousingAnnualShipmentsToothAcheCredits-ManufacturedHousingIndustryMastheadCommentary-MHProNews--150x97.png 150w, https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/ManufacturedHousingAnnualShipmentsToothAcheCredits-ManufacturedHousingIndustryMastheadCommentary-MHProNews--768x497.png 768w, https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/ManufacturedHousingAnnualShipmentsToothAcheCredits-ManufacturedHousingIndustryMastheadCommentary-MHProNews-.png 791w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 575px) 100vw, 575px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-12584\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Even though many may see the potential to hit 300,000 or 400,000 or even 500,000 annual shipments in a sustainable fashion, that will only occur when systemic changes are made by serious manufactured home players on the local and regional levels. \u00a0The tooth ache of modest growth won&#8217;t heal itself.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Part of the reason for the long slide of manufactured housing from its peak in 1998 is precisely because:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Some lenders and retailers in manufactured housing \u2013 many of whom are now long gone \u2013 didn\u2019t realize that unsustainable lending was bad for everyone: consumers, lenders, sellers, builders \u2013 everyone in the MH mix.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>That an uneven playing field with conventional vs. manufactured homes exists, and that far too few are addressing the true causes or are modeling the solutions needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Paul Bradley and Titus Dare each suggest part of the solutions, see links from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhpronews.com\/blogs\/daily-business-news\/fhfa-makes-major-move-significant-impact-expected-on-mh-loans\/\" target=\"_blank\">RC\u2019s article<\/a>, referenced above.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lending and all of manufactured housing must be approached from an \u2018everyone in the mix wins\u2019 perspective.<\/p>\n<p>That means, that lenders and home owners alike must be able to count on a sound exit-strategy. In a trillion dollar a year housing industry, to be stuck at some $5.25 billion a year in new manufactured home sales seems low, doesn&#8217;t it?<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It is precisely because not enough manufactured housing professionals have rallied around the mid-to-long term steps needed to advance manufactured homes into mainstream housing that we are still stuck in a relatively low gear.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, we may hit some 80,000 homes this year, but that\u2019s only about 22 percent of where manufactured housing was in 1998.<\/p>\n<p>There are many possibilities. One is that a new deep-pockets player will look at MH World, say\u00a0 &#8216;we can outperform those who are in that field.&#8217; And that player could be an oversees or domestic money source.<\/p>\n<p>Until enough local and regional players decide to get serious about the underlying causes of what holds manufactured housing back, we will slowly climb back to the 100,000 annual shipment market and may in time pass it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8797 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/nice-mhc-trillion-dollar-us-housing-market-masthead-blog-mhpronews-com-.jpg\" alt=\"nice-mhc-trillion-dollar-us-housing-market-masthead-blog-mhpronews-com-\" width=\"494\" height=\"303\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/nice-mhc-trillion-dollar-us-housing-market-masthead-blog-mhpronews-com-.jpg 494w, https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/nice-mhc-trillion-dollar-us-housing-market-masthead-blog-mhpronews-com--150x92.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 494px) 100vw, 494px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But we won\u2019t hit the 300,000, 400,000 or 500,000 annual shipments of new HUD Code manufactured homes that would otherwise be possible.
