Image credit, WikiCommons.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&gt; Manufactured Home (MH) Retailers who are selling homes at the best rate in years;<\/p>\n<p>&gt; MH Communities, that are watching their occupancy rise;<\/p>\n<p>&gt; MH (and modular) <a href=\"http:\/\/manufacturedhomelivingnews.com\/impressive-report-points-to-manufactured-home-quality-and-satisfaction-what-all-housing-shoppers-should-know\/\">Builders who are producing homes with astonishingly few consumer complaints<\/a>;<\/p>\n<p>&gt; Suppliers, service, installers and associations that day-by-day do what it takes for our consumers, business and MH homeowners.<\/p>\n<p>&gt; The national and state associations deserve credit for getting HR 650 passed by such a wide margin.<\/p>\n<p>Associations deserve credit every time they jump in and help turn around some unfair zoning or other unjust treatment of MH in their area, <a href=\"http:\/\/like the TMHA recently did -\" target=\"_blank\">as the TMHA recently did<\/a>. We encourage every state and community association to send us their &#8216;victory&#8217; stories, <em>because there are many.<\/em> \u00a0The industry needs to know how often MH associations actually<em> win for homeowners and professionals.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We should add a special mention to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/max-banner-ads\/max-banner-ads-lib\/include\/redirect.php?id=48\">DataComp<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/max-banner-ads\/max-banner-ads-lib\/include\/redirect.php?id=47\">NADA<\/a>. Both organizations made significant commitments to the MH industry to meet the <a href=\"http:\/\/manufacturedhomepronews.com\/masthead\/new-cfpb-mandated-hpml-appraisal-rule-for-manufactured-housing-effective-july-18-2015\/\">new CFPB appraisal rule on schedule<\/a>. What that means is that retailers, brokers, communities and lenders have an affordable way to meet the new federal rules that went into effect July 18, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>We are 5 years into a recovery. Is all of the above progress? What business executive, manager or that eager rising star fails to invest time in learning more about their profession or industry? 15 minutes a day here on MHProNews.com and 15 minutes a day on MHLivingNews.com ought to be the minimum to form the proper mindset to advance UP. \u00a0We see that those who do, improve in their peformance. \u00a0Enough said.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But let\u2019s be candid.<\/p>\n<p>The 90&#8217;s weren&#8217;t perfect by a long shot for MH. \u00a0Bad chattel deals cost us then, and still do today. \u00a0We were making inroads into mainstream housing then, we lost an edge. \u00a0We must work to get it back!<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, today&#8217;s MH lenders do a fine job of making good loans to people who can afford them. \u00a0As Dick Ernst has said publicly, our industry has no practical limit to its capacity for making good loans to people with good credit. \u00a0Its the lower credit scores that have always been, and will always be, tougher to make and service. We might do about 4.3 billion in new home sales this year. Do you see how far we have to go? It dovetails with information published in the report linked here. \u00a0Grahics like this prove that CFPB regulations are driving out lenders from MH, just as they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/us-bank-exits-from-indirect-manufactured-housing-lending\/\" target=\"_blank\">drove out giant U.S. Bank last year.<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Let\u2019s look at an example of how the facts are on our side, but we\u2019ve allowed opposition forces to deliver body blows, because the industry has too often opted not to respond effectively.<\/p>\n<p>The Seattle Times\/Center for Public Integrity and non-profits such as CFED, led by Doug Ryan, spin their stories that MH lenders are greedy, heartless and were born out-of-wedlock. They push the narrative that MH lenders must\u00a0be over-regulated by the CFPB,\u00a0to &#8216;protect&#8217; consumers,\u00a0etc.. \u00a0Ironically, there are good, honest \u2013<strong> compelling! \u2013 answers<\/strong> to every allegation\u00a0they&#8217;ve\u00a0made.<\/p>\n<p>Between the article and the posted comments (read all the comments, please) linked below\u00a0\u2013<em> you\u2019ll find the answers to those false allegations.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/congress-blog\/economy-budget\/248665-regulations-for-manufactured-home-loans\" target=\"_blank\">thehill.com\/blogs\/congress-blog\/economy-budget\/248665-<strong>regulations-for-manufactured-home-loans<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There have been private and public cheers for the above. \u00a0The truth is that as an industry, we&#8217;ve\u00a0had this information all along. By supporting the value proposition for MH owners\/residents and reinforcing their respectability and wisdom in their lifestyle choice, they win.\u00a0 So do we as MH Pros.\u00a0 We must think mutual victories.\u00a0 We must help our owners and residents, win.<\/li>\n<li>On issues like HR 650\/S 682, the first message to frame is that MH home owners are harmed. <strong>We MH Pros must be the real consumer advocates for MH owners and buyers.<\/strong>\u00a0 Let others be a part of that to the degree they in fact support MH<em>, but we must lead that charge. Doing so benefits everyone in the mix. <\/em>Smart retailers, communities, factories, lenders and others are already doing this, and it makes them more money.<\/li>\n<li>We don\u2019t have to think about \u2018everyone\u2019 being in on good actions.<strong> What we need are the leaders. The doers.\u00a0<\/strong> Those who see that MH ought to be a mainstream home option, not a modest sideline in housing.<\/li>\n<li>We floated the idea about 4 years ago of an<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/latonykovach.com\/the-mh-alliance-partners-in-progress.php\">MH Alliance, Partners in Progress<\/a><\/strong>.
