Meaning is some tenant going to be told their lease will not be renewed, not because they didn\u2019t pay their rent or follow the rules and not because the land owner doesn\u2019t want them to stay, but rather because the city is demanding a vegetable garden be placed where their home currently sits.<\/li>\n<li>And even if there is vacant space, for some communities and prospective residents, the better use of available space could be to put another home there and allow another family a place to live rather than a garden.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I don\u2019t know much about gardening, but from what I understand, it is a labor intensive and an expensive endeavor engaged by those with a passion for it.\u00a0It is not a means of providing low cost, locally sourced fruit and vegetables.\u00a0 So what happens if they build it and no one comes?\u00a0 What if no one wants to garden in the community?\u00a0 For some communities I can see this turning into a neglected part of the community.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m confused by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhpronews.com\/blogs\/industryvoices\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/CouncilMemberRenteriaSeeksAmenitiesForMobileHomeParks-repostedManufacturedHousingIndustryIndustryVoicesDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews-.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Council Member Renteria<\/a>\u2019s quote of, \u201c<strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">There\u2019s huge mobile home parks now being built all along the Eastern Crescent, on the border of the city<\/span><\/strong>.\u201d \u201c<strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">This is a little urgent now because there are so many in the pipeline<\/span><\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I know <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhpronews.com\/home\/featured-articles\/cup-of-coffee-interviews\/9203-a-cup-of-coffee-withscott-roberts\" target=\"_blank\">Scott Roberts<\/a> got a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhpronews.com\/home\/featured-articles\/august-2016\/11967-getting-zoning-approvals-for-new-manufactured-home-communities-\" target=\"_blank\">rezoning approval for the construction of a new community<\/a>, but the quote gives the implication there are tons of parks under development.\u00a0 I\u2019d of course love it if that were actually the case, but other than Robert\u2019s Resorts, I\u2019m not aware of any.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, the city j<a href=\"http:\/\/manufacturedhomelivingnews.com\/nimbyism-debunking-myths-about-manufactured-home-communities-aka-mobile-home-parks\/\" target=\"_blank\">ust turned down a request<\/a> to allow for a new community to be developed after neighbors showed up to oppose it.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2750\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2750\" style=\"width: 481px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhpronews.com\/blogs\/9961-seeking-problems-success-stories-with-siting-manufactured-homes-in-texas\" target=\"_blank\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" class=\" wp-image-2750\" src=\"http:\/\/www.manufacturedhomepronews.com\/industryvoices\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/DJPendletonTMHAExecDirector-ManufacturedHousingIndustryVoices-AnotherExampleGovtOverreachTargetingManufacturedHomes-MHProNews-.png\" alt=\"djpendletontmhaexecdirector-manufacturedhousingindustryvoices-anotherexamplegovtoverreachtargetingmanufacturedhomes-mhpronews\" width=\"481\" height=\"335\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2750\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Links and headline were added by MHProNews. Graphic credit, MHProNews.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This just seems like yet another city overreach with an idea that has not yet been thoroughly thought out as to its practical impact.\u00a0 And it is once again, the singling out of manufactured home communities compared to other housing options.<\/p>\n<p>Notice there is no proposal to mandate vegetable gardens in multi-family housing, or even in other single-family neighborhoods in Austin.<\/p>\n<p>And as for the playground or recreation facility requirement this would impose on new construction, I again think these amenities work for some communities &#8211; but others for reasons of cost, maintenance, and liability &#8211; it doesn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>I might add that the City of Austin has closed in the past some city parks and pools because they city did not want to spend the money to maintain them.
