‘I’m a huge fan of President Trump, but this would be inflationary.’ So said conservative fill-in host Dan Mandis on Red Eye Radio before dawn on 9.10.2026. ‘But the devil will be in the details. Maybe in the details this could be spread out as tariffs come in and it wouldn’t be so bad.’ Mandis is “The Marconi Award-winning talk show host is filling in for the regular hosts, Eric Harley and Gary McNamara, during their scheduled time off. [1]” Dan Mandis is the “Host of The Dan Mandis Show on SuperTalk 99.7 WTN.” Mandis played a clip from left-leaning ABC News to illustrate how the idea is sparking headlines and commentary, including pushback, from across the left and right.’ Like the idea or not, be it inflationary or not, be it doable with Congressional approval or not, isn’t this the kind of chatter causing remark that could boost turnout and voting in the midterms? Per Trump, “Stand with me and we will defeat Communism once and for all.”

2. Much of the convention focused on the theme, ‘look at what we accomplished without any Democratic support.’ The midterm convention will continue today, the 1-year anniversary of the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
Charlie Kirk would want the Senate to pass the SAVE America Act

3. The Republican (Grand Old Party or GOP) Midterm Convention had as a visual subtheme that was the racial and gender inclusiveness among their speakers. The convention even featured a de facto sexual preference (as in the ‘gay lifestyle’) inclusiveness in as much as Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who is among those who are homosexual in the Trump orbit. Per left-leaning Wikipedia: “Scott Kenneth Homer Bessent (/ˈbɛsənt/ BESS-ənt; born August 21, 1962) is an American businessman, financial commentator, and government official serving since 2025 as the 79th United States secretary of the treasury.[1]…He is the first openly gay person to lead the U.S. Treasury Department, the first openly gay U.S. Senate-confirmed Cabinet member in a Republican administration,[3] the second openly gay Senate-confirmed Cabinet secretary,[4] and the highest-ranking LGBTQ government official in U.S. history.[5][6]”
4. The Real Clear Politics (RCP) average of polls has favored Democrats in many cases. However, polling also suggests that Democrats are unpopular, less popular than President Trump.

6. Painting Democrats as largely tilting into the grip of the DSA, the Democratic Socialists of America, was another common theme at the convention. The GOP protecting women’s sports, bathrooms, and locker rooms, and protecting parents defending their children from DEI and the ‘trans agenda’ were among the social themes.
7. Trump took on the unpopularity of the Iran conflict and its impact on higher oil prices directly by saying that once the midterms are over, the Iranian regime is likely to fold.
8. A source at the convention told MHProNews that HUD Secretary Turner did ‘a good job’ speaking at the convention.

11. No tax on tips. No tax on overtime. Lower (or no) tax on Social Security. Those were among the themes as the “Working Families Tax Cut” was the rebrand of the One Big Beautiful Bill’s (OBBB) jobs and tax cuts was promoted. Democrats, viewers and attendees were reminded, did not support those cuts that put thousands of dollars into the pockets of tens of millions of Americans. Voter ID. Trump and the GOP hit numerous so-called ’80-20′ issues that even many Democrats support, per public polling.
12. Trump himself acknowledged that most of the time, the party in power tends to lose the midterm. Per Copilot: “Since 1862, the president’s party has won (gained seats in) the U.S. House in only 3 of 65 midterm elections — about 4.6% of the time — and has lost in the other 62 cases.”
Copilot also noted;
Political scientists note that midterms act as a referendum on the sitting president’s performance. Opposition voters are typically more motivated, while the president’s supporters may be less engaged, leading to net losses for the incumbent party uspollingdata.com+1.
In short: The party in power has won the House in only 3 of 65 midterms since 1862, and just 2 of 20 since 1946 — making it one of the most consistent patterns in U.S. political history.
13. So, while oddsmakers and pollsters going into the GOP’s historic 2026 Midterm Convention have stressed an edge to Democrats, Trump and the GOP are challenging that historic pattern. Because of ballot access laws and other factors, and none of the minor parties offering a serious challenge to the two major parties, U.S. elections tend to be ‘binary’ choices. While there are fractures in both Trump coaliation and the Democratic coalition, the question may come down to which party can turn out their base despite those fractures.
